Fiqh Ahlul Hadeeth Shaykh Muhammed Luqman As-Salafi (Wudu Part 1)

Rulings on Wudu (Ablution) –  Obligatory Acts of Wudû:

  • Niyyah (Intention):

Narrated Umar ibn Khattab: I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying, “The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrates for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration will be for what he emigrated for.”[1]

  • Washing the face:
    Includes:
    – Rinsing the mouths
    – Sniffing water into the Nose and blowing it out

Allah says: “O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salat (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands…”[2]

Narrated by Humran, the slave of `Uthman: I saw `Uthman bin `Affan asking for a tumbler of water (and when it was brought), he poured water over his hands and washed them thrice and then put his right hand in the water container and rinsed his mouth, washed his nose by putting water in it and then blowing it out. Then he washed his face and forearms up to the elbows thrice…..”[3]

  • Washing the hands up to the elbows:

Allah says: “O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salat (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands…”[4]

• Wiping the whole head:

Wiping over all of the head as Allaah ta’ala says: “…rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads.”[6]

  • Washing the feet up to the ankles:

Allaah ta’ala says: “….and (wash) your feet up to (the) ankles.”[7]

Thus ordering the washing of the feet and ankles.

  • Following the order:

Allah says: “O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salat (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to (the) ankles.”[8]

  • Washing each limb one at a time without having a break:

Khaled bin Ma’daan – Narrated Some Companions of the Prophet: The Prophet (ﷺ) saw a person offering prayer, and on the back of his foot a small part equal to the space of a dirham remained unwashed; the water did not reach it. The Prophet (ﷺ) commanded him to repeat the ablution and prayer.[9]
